Page for Chicago-area artist John Wenz

I'm an artist living and working in Chicago who makes paintings, zines, comics, prints, and more across a variety of mediums.

My work has a lot of elements of the paranormal and ufology, inspired by my obsession with old paperbacks and magazines, as well as 1990s paranormal TV. I also touch on, in my comics and some other stuff, experiences with bipolar disorder, OCD, and anxiety issues. But like, in a funny way.

In a former life I was a journalist.

You can find my stuff at a scattering of shops across Milwaukee and Chicago, or at the store below.

Publications

Strange Highways series - Paintings with accompanying text about true-life encounters with UFOs, aliens, or generally weird things

Nightmares and Other Concerns - A self-anthology mini-comic with both fiction and non-fiction, with horror, comedy, and pathos brewed together.

Cryptic series - A dizzying magazine-sized collage zine of old paranormal magazines and paperbacks built around a theme

Low Mediums - A comic mixing autobiography and a history of spiritualism as a personal loss leads to an encounter with some less-than-perceptive mediums

Gray Skies - A comic I'll probably fold into Nightmares, but the first issue is about an alien that gets tired of the abduction game and moves to the big city to find himself, if he can get over his anxiety about flatpack furniture

Medium Strange - My own encounters with the strange
